Refugees

With this project, the critical and most urgent need is skills development to ensure the economic empowerment of refugees hence promoting self-sufficiency. Provision of social support needs i.e shelter, food, clothing and health.

This was the first program that the Founder/President started with. He conducted HIV/AIDS workshops, sourced food and clothes for the refugees as well as did referrals to Education Institutions and Health Facilities. South Africa is one of the wealthy countries in Africa hence the majority of people from other countries (affected by war and poverty among others) prefer to settle in South Africa.

Refugees in South Africa are not staying in camps and they don’t get financial help from the Government. When they arrive in South Africa they become vulnerable in many areas including among other HIV, unemployment, shelter and understanding the language. Among the refugees, some have skills and some don’t, leaving a gap for MCI to harness those with skills so that they can teach those without skills and intermingle them with the local people without skills. This is a way to integrate them with the local community members. This helps to fight the xenophobic spirit that prevails in the different communities of South Africa.
